HISTORY

Built in 1981 this yacht was launched as a “Boat Show” Model in 1982 as “Kims Charissmo”, named by the first owners Keith and Mo Midgley (K I Midgley= Kim and Mo’s Charisma giving the rest!)

After a brief season in the Solent they set off for the Med’ over several years, spending six months of the year on board. Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Sardinia, Corsica ,Italy, Greece and finally Turkey.A couple of years in Turkey saw them retracing their steps as far as Mallorca, where they secured a permanent berth and based themselves there; still spending at least six months a year on-board.

During that time Keith lavished care, attention (and considerable amounts of money!) keeping the yacht in tip-top condition, even having the hull “Intersprayed” white from the original Blue, which was beginning to fade. After thirteen years of ownership they were ready for a change and traded her in against a brand new 50 foot Trader Motor Yacht.  She was delivered back to the UK and we managed to snap her up in 1994.As Keith and Mo wanted to keep the name for their new vessel we renamed her “Unda”.(Unda is latin for Wave, she was built in Finland, I used to import printing equipment from a company in Finland called Unda Oy…..so why not?)

As part of the “deal” we had the hull epoxide treated and all standing rigging renewed, and set off for what was a new home for us in Cheshire. We had two delightful years over wintering in the Manchester Ship Canal, and cruising Northern Ireland and the West Coast of Scotland and the Inner Hebrides .(yes “Unda” has been through the notorious Corryvecken)

1997 We moved to Plymouth and sailed the West Country and the Channel Islands for two years. 1999 saw us moving “Unda” to Cork where she enjoyed three years cruising the delightful West Coast of Ireland. We returned “Unda” to Preston for a year before I retired in 2002 and brought her down to our new home near Somerset.

I spent two long years doing a total refit in Portishead prior to our long planned extended cruising. Virtually no part of the yacht was left untouched, with “Copperbot” anti-foul, total electronic re-fit (radar, radios, GPS’s etc) new galley, cookers, fridge, generator, watermaker, shower tiling, sails, awnings dodgers and leather upholstery….the works.

We set sail from Portishead in 2004, with one hop to Falmouth, then straight across Biscay to Northern Spain all complete in five days.  From then on we slowed down cruising the Spanish Rias and Portugal, spending the first winter in Lagos.
2005 was Gibraltar, Morocco, Spain and the Balearics; wintering this time in Mallorca. “Unda” and ourselves settled quickly into the cruising life, usually six months cruising in the summer, back to the UK for July and August to escape the heat and crowds,(leaving “Unda” usually ashore) then back on-board up until November.
2006 was off to Menorca, across to Sardinia, Corsica, Elba, and then mainland Italy to over-winter in Ostia.

We rejoined “Unda” in 2007 cruising from the Bay of Naples to the Aolian Islands, Sicily, East Coast of Italy before crossing the Ionian to Lefkas in Greece, which is were we have been based for the rest of the year, cruising some of the most delightful anchorages in the Med’.

The plan is to return to Lefkas in April 2008 for family visits through May.  We plan to leave Lefkas early June for Turkey, arriving in the Marmaris/Fethyia area within a couple of weeks.

By the end of August we will achieved all our cruising ambitions and hopefully he handing on “Unda” to her next discerning owners.

IMPORTANT NOTE:- Whilst we will be finishing our cruising season in Turkey IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE V.A.T.PAID STATUS OF “UNDA” The actual Sales Contract and Handover of yacht and Title will take place in the EU (Greek waters, Rhodes,Kos,Cyprus or similar)

We hope you have found this brief history useful. This 44 has been to a lot of places, has always been beautifully maintained by careful owners, and in all that time has never let us down.  Please see FAQ’s for more details, and do not hesitate to ask any other questions.
